Beautiful Queensland Gems

by Hylda Bracewell

QldGems.jpg (30850 bytes)Beautiful Queensland Gems is a book that will appeal to all members of the community. Whether those members are ardent fossickers (rockhounds), or just have a love of beautiful things.

It would be difficult to find someone who does not appreciate the beauty of gemstones, and Queensland produces some of the most beautiful gems in the world.

Fossicking in Queensland is an enjoyable and rewarding recreational activity and the State has a rich diversity of fossicking materials.

The Government supports the activity of fossicking and has set aside a number of areas in the State. In these areas people can dig for opals, sapphires, gold and many other precious and semi-precious stones.

This book will increase awareness of what Queensland has to offer, the day tripper; the weekend fossicker; visitors to this fair State, the overseas tourist looking for a different adventure; or the person wanting to experience the atmosphere and excitement of finding their very own gem.

With Queensland's reputation for friendliness, its wonderful climate and abundance of precious and semi-precious gems, this book will inspire and encourage all readers to try their hand at fossicking for gems.

The Department of Mines and Energy in Queensland is honoured to introduce the reader to Beautiful Queensland Gems.
