Central Goldfields Region Info

About the Region

The Central goldfields Region of Victoria is one of Victoria's four major Goldfields and so far has proven to be by far the richest, while entirely encompassing the famous gold nugget rich Golden Triangle region totally within its perimeter it surely contains the most significant alluvial gold nugget fields in Australia and no doubt in the world.

The district covers mostly low rainfall areas of Central Victoria particularly in the north and is vegetated by mostly red gums, grey box gums, ironbark gums, many different varieties of wattles and some low growing plants including Chinese scrub. The geology is very complex and differs greatly from area to area but mostly consists of red clays overlying slates with ridges of ironstone and quartz reefs running in a north to south direction.

More to come.
