The new GOLDSCAN is a total revision of an old favourite which has recovered many thousands of pounds worth of treasure over the past eight years. The design has been changed both mechanically and electronically to embody the latest technology in both areas. The result is a high power detector that is easy and non tiring to use together with improved electronic reliability and stability. Some brand new features have also been added to improve the detectors versatility.
ON THE BEACH use the GOLDSCAN with the 11" coil to achieve incredible depths in both wet and dry sand. Salt water does not affect performance so the Ground CANcelling facility is not required. For areas with excessive pull tabs and large pieces of silver paper the Foil Reject control can be used to reduce sensitivity to these items. Much iron can be eliminated by judicious use of the DISC. control and the SELect 1 or 2 switch position. Switch over to the Probe to quickly locate a find in a dug hole or to probe between rocks and large stones.

ELECTRONICS:
The electronics of the detector are divided into two
parts; the main transmitter/receiver in the front box and the power supply and audio
circuits in the rear box under the armrest. Both boxes are sealed
against ingress of water and sand or dust but must not be submerged. The printed circuit
boards are computer designed to give maximum reliability and miniaturisation. Only the
best high specification components are used and the circuits are subjected to three stages
of testing plus a burn in period to ensure the performance is stabilised and is consistent
between detectors. The output indication is both visual on a meter and audible on speaker
or phones. The headphones plug into a jack socket on the battery box and a unique
sensing circuit cuts out the speaker in the main electronics when the plug is inserted.
SEARCH LOOPS:
The search loops are available in two sizes:- 11
" (280mm) and 8" (200mm) plus a 3/4" probe permanently wired in and
switched into use as required. Both loop sizes incorporate a double electrostatic shield
to eliminate capacitive effects on a wet beach. Loops and probe are fully water proof and
can be submerged. Loop connectors are sealed weatherproof types.
BATTERY SYSTEM:
The GOLDSCAN is powered by a belt mounted 15V battery
pack unit incorporating nickel-cadmium rechargeable cells. The cells are charged in situ
by plugging the charger output jack into the headphone socket. The battery pack can be
replaced easily by the user. Fault protection is by means of a fuse on the battery unit.
The battery unit is connected to the main electronics via a coiled extension lead. This is
sufficient for the detector to be placed on the ground while the user is standing upright
and digging with a full size spade As the phones plug into the battery box these do not
have to be removed while digging.
BATTERY LIFE:
The capacity of the batteries is such that the
GOLDSCAN will operate for 8-10 hours on a full charge. To re charge using the mains
charger requires 12 - 14 hours. It is not possible to overcharge using the chargers
supplied.
SHAFT ASSEMBLY:
The shaft consists of a lightweight anodised
aluminium armsaver assembly which is adjustable in length by means of a locking telescopic
collar. The bottom 9" of the lower shaft is of rigid plastic material to avoid
excessive signal levels due to the proximity of shaft and loop.
