Local Prospectors latest find

23rd. September 2000 -- The gold nugget shown above were found in the Maryborough Goldfields region by a local prospector from Carisbrook. It was found in open bushland near some old workings lying at a depth of 10 inches in red clay and gravel. The prospector had been working a small run of gold on a hillside for several days and was there for the last go at it when good luck smiled his way in the shape of a 30 ounce nugget. It was found around the opening of the Olympic Games and the finder has named it Olympia.
