We have been selling these headphones for the past 10 years or more since Telex introduced them to their product range and they have become the choice of many professionals for those environments where our Telex lightweight under chin earphones are not suitable due to excessive background noise.
Our after sales of this full cover model and also the lightweight Telex earphones finally convinced Minelab to include this model as their standard headphone supplied with the SD series detectors in place of the inefficient piezo transducer headphones originally provided at product launch, however the Telex headphones as supplied are not "diode suppressed".
Fitted with "diode suppression" (a term coined by Finders to identify our modification) they are most popular for prospecting in areas where outside background noise is a problem such as around earthmoving machinery or on the beach where there is wave action creating a distracting level of noise.
Finders was the pioneer of using "diode suppressed" headphones for detecting and even today many are not aware of the benefits to be had from this method of signal limiting.
One of the important features of these headphones is the efficiency of the transducer which has the ability to lift the weaker target signals out of the background noises.
The most important feature of all is the high impedance of 600 ohms which allows them to be effectively fitted with clipping diodes ("diode suppressed") (clipping diodes are not effective on low impedance headphones). Unlike a volume control which attenuates weak signals into the background and thus negates any benefits of using headphones "diode suppression" has no loss effect on weak or soft signals but limits the volume to a comfortable level on large and loud targets.Finders Gold Zapper Headphone Amplifier
