The Event:
This years Australasian Goldpanning Championships will be held in the miner's creek park situated at beautiful Lake Victoria, Maryborough , Victoria.
The adjacent caravan park caters for all interests and has on-site accommodation available to suit your needs. Other accommodation and facilities are also available in Maryborough and surrounding districts.
This is a certified championship and follows the guidelines established by the World Goldpanning Association. It will be conducted in a gold panning area that is especially designed for the event.
For those who have never tried panning for gold, this is an opportunity to take a lesson, practice in the panning tasks, and then come and join the fun - You keep all the gold you find in competition panning.
Gold Rush Activities:
Great Nugget Hunt
Adjacent to the competition area, there will be a variety of booths offering food, local craft and prospecting equipment and many other items with a prospecting theme. A special area will be set aside for the "Great Nugget Hunt" and other spectator events. You may be one of the lucky people who will strike it rich on the day! All novice panners are guaranteed they will find some real gold.
Awards and Prizes:
All category winners and place-getters will be awarded prizes.
The major prize will be a return ticket to Europe for the Australian Champion to represent Australia in the 2000 World Gold Panning Championships in Poland.
Categories:
The 1998 Goldpanning Championships will consist of the following categories:-
Beginners: - This event is restricted to those that have not competed in previous skilled goldpanning contests. This competition will also feature men's and women's categories.
Juniors: - This event is divided into two age groups;
Youth's - boys and girls 12 to 16 years years of age and
Children's - boys and girls under 12 years of age.Skilled: - Competition will be divided into men's and women's categories.
Open: - Anyone may compete in this category.
Veterans: - Gold panners at least 60 years old may compete in this event.
Teams: - This is open for any combination of 3 competitors.
International Teams: - All nations are welcome to participate.The Tasman Cup will once again be contested.
Fees:
Adult event: $15.00
Children's or youth's event: $7.50
Team: $15.00Early Bird Special: register by 15 October 1999 and pay $10.00 for adult events and $5.00 for children / youth events. (Note Payment may be made on the day)
