If you go way back in this forum until about the first half of the year before last last year you will find a write up about it by Chris Hake.

If this refers to the Nth Meekatharra "Frenchman Patch", its about 130kms NE of Meeka, turn left off the highway at Limestone Well and go north to P51/2468 which is GRANTED, repeat GRANTED, in the name of Alain Lapelerie. About 2000 ozs is the rumour and of course we all believe rumours dont we[8D]!

Hey Bogene, did you guys get back to the "tent rope tripping" place? There must be more there somewhere[Wink]. CJH.

In here,

Forget "The Frenchmans Patch". Unless you have a D9, it's history. Done like a dinner. Holes everywhere, campfires every 10 metres.

I was there in June for a quick squizzy as I'd never set foot on it. Waste of time these days.

I and a few of my mates were there just after it went public and there was a camp/caravan every 50 meters for as far as you could see. Been there a few times and I know "Stickman" and his mates they alone pulled out well over 3000oz before it went public. The last time I went a French team of journalists were there (I was with stickman then) I personally saw stickman's mate pull out around 200oz from one hole which was less than a 100meters from my camp. I was the only one to go to this particular patch by following stickman's teams quad tracks through the scrub about 3kms NE of the main patch. Within 2 days others followed my tracks and there was 25 people there! Smell it I reckon!! Needless to say I left because: 1 It was stickman's patch and 2 I HATE CROWDS.... Haven't been back for over a year now...

Thanks for the co-od's mate, I'll have a google.[Smile]

Bilbo, I don't doubt that it has been well done!

The story I got was that a guy named stickman (nickname?) found the patch and took over 1200 ozs off it over a 4 month period.

Then a guy named King and a bloke named er....Porter sprung him.
King told his mates in Queensland and er..... Porter put the co=od's on the net. Stickman was not overjoyed.[Sad!][V]

The guy who told that story, witnessed Stickman and a mate get a signal.
When they dug the signals kept coming. Over 30 ozs in bits from the same hole. The hole ended up very deep and very wide.

From the way he discribed the place,It already looked then, like Bilbo discribed it now. This happened well after the patch became known.

I had to wonder, why no one seems to have done it with a D9.

Just thought one of you guys may have some sneaky inside info.[Very Happy]

The PL that Alan, "The Frenchman" has pegged is believed to be the area that produced the least gold. But the gold on it was big and shallow. Alan has done a good job of pegging and has managed to include anything that looks half decent. It's as flat as tack and deep when you get away from the ridge that forms most of Alan's lease until you get to the area E.N.E. of Alan's This is about 3 kms further E.N.E, is a smaller area that is BELEIVED to be where the reef is. Where "Stickman" got that hole with all the gold in it, there's now 2 dirty great jackhammered holes on top of the ridge. In between this spot and Alan's lease is a 'dead band' of quartz and ironstone wash with SFA in it - I checked for 4 days. When we were up there we didn't go onto Alan's lease but we did bip around it all - for nothing. The area to the E.N.E is not Alan's. It's on an E.L that belongs to a mining company. Fair game I reckon. Both areas have been chained and chained again. We got 4 small peices and a 12 grammer in this latter area. The 12 grammer was sitting on top under a big branch and had travelled a long way.

I won't be going back.

I've sinced found out a few other facts about the general area up there. With what I know about other patches around there and now Alan's,,,,,,,,,,,well, best keep the rest to myself fer now. Nuff said. [Smile]

G'day Bilbo

Wouldn't It be great to find a once in a lifetime patch like that!

But wouldn't It be a mongrel worrying about getting sprung and having the thing turned into a caravan park.[V]

When a bloke a place like that, there shoud be some way to peg it. Without giving the OK for everyone to rape the place while the all red tapes happening.[Sad!]

Know anything about David Johns. How did he get the goanna patch?

Inhere I suggest you get your facts well and truly straight before placing comments of this nature up on a public forum. As you can well imagine every piece of gold ever found has some sort of human interest story attached of which the finding thereof can be manipulated and distorted in the re-telling around campfires for many years to come (usually dependant on the amount of alcohol consumed and the levels of jealousy experienced at the time[xx(]).

I have personnally only been to the "SuperPatch" once which was in late 2003 and that was armed with nothing but my video camera (for those who know the country there is some footage of the "Super Patch" in our first video[:I]). I did miss out big time though, when back in 2000 I was within 4K's of the patch with a drag coil, but such is life and I am pretty sure there are a lot of other hardy prospectors who would be cursing the same fate[Sad].

However my brother (who is a professional Dogger BTW) was working in that area finding gold on his days off well before the whole thing became common knowledge and was completely unaware of Alan's presence only a few K's away at the same time. Oh and just for the record my brother never goes on the Net so I very much doubt if he put up GPS locations for all to see and I can assure you I didn't either!![Sad!]

No one will ever know the true turn of events with regards to the "Super Patch", one thing is for certain though, Alan Lapelerie("The Frenchman"), Gerard Berry-Porter (my brother), Stickman (Ray the Dogger") and Allan King (Kingy) were amongst the first in there pulling gold on what would have to be one of the biggest patches in WA for a very long while.

Yep, if you get onto a good patch dont even tell your dog about it. Vultures learnt how to survive by copying human behaviour!!!![Sad]

David John? Did you read his book "-*- Gold"? CJH.

David John's book, "-*- Gold" is a top read. Some great photos. I'd highly recommend it. He went from a hard working but broke, youg man trying his hand at minor dryblowing to an almost overnight millionaire. Following the big finds he almost killed himself with alchohol and paranoia about his gold. Understandable considering the number of tossers that tried to get it off him. He's still in Leonora and I beleive he has sold and re-bought the Goanna Patch at least once since his first find. He made money on both ends of the deal - good on him.

I wouldn't go too near the place as his reputation for not welcoming visitors precedes him. Anectdotal tales tell of shotguns, lots of "F' words meaning "Go Away, NOW!". There was a time when he a drunken sot of a man, but he was a very tough looking hard man when I last saw him. I wouldn't wanna upset him.

Hi All, I have to agree with JP this time as to who gave out the info. He told me that it was unsure but pointed the blame to Kingy as he and Frenchman were working the patch and Kingy tracked them down. He said that Kingy always tries to follow the pair when he can. Frenchman wasn't there when I spoke to Stickman as he was away for a while.
