Laanecoorie Spillway in flood
Laanecoorie offers the visitor a distinct change of scene compared with the other drier Goldfields regions as both the Laanecoorie Reservoir and the Loddon River with its nearby tranquil surrounds provide a habitat to a large variety of water birds including pelicans. On a hot day the Loddon River's banks with it's shady red gums are a delightful place to spend the hours just relaxing, fishing, or with a good book.

Popular activities include safe swimming, water skiing, and fishing in both the river and the lake. Metal detectors are also available for hire with appropriate maps and instruction for those who wish to try their luck at prospecting. The quite roads and surrounding countryside are also very suitable for bike riding or walking as the area is not too hilly and contains a lot of scenic tracks and historical places of interest.

The Laanecoorie Reservoir Reserve has excellent facilities for picnicking or family BBQ's. There are many interesting walks including the enclosed walkway over the top of the weir wall to the other side as shown in the photograph below.
